Michael Jordan rewrote the record books during a glorious career playing in the NBA, and the basketball legend continues to do so off-the-court.
The 52-year-old has become the first-ever billion dollar athlete, and ranked as the 1741st richest person on the planet, according to Forbes.
A record 290 newcomers joined the Forbes billionaires list in the last year with the former Chicago Bulls legend among those due largely to his endorsement with sports manufacturer Nike.
The Jordan brand by Nike brought in an estimated $2.25 billion in 2013, which earned the 52 year-old athlete $90 million, according to Forbes.
Despite his affiliation to the American sportswear giants, it is Jordan's stake of the Charlotte Hornets that has increased his wealth immensely.
In March 2010, the former Bulls shooting guard agreed to buy 80 per cent of the Eastern Conference side, then called the Charlotte Bobcats, at around $275m.
In 2013, this share rose to 89 per cent and is now worth more than $700m.
