Monopoly Celebrates 80th Anniversary by Making Editions with Real Money in France

For the 80th anniversary of iconic board game Monopoly's French debut, toymaker Hasbro is shipping 80 copies of the game stocked with real money.

The 80 copies will have varying amounts of cash included in them, with only one having its entire selection of banknotes replaced with real cash – to the tune of over $23,000 in euros.

"We wanted to do something unique,"Florence Gaillard, brand manager at Hasbro France told The Guardian.

"When we asked our French customers, they told us they wanted to find real money in their Monopoly boxes," she added. (As opposed to say, other countries, who no doubt would've preferred real top hats, small dogs and cars to be included in their Monopoly sets.)

The note-switching took place in the small eastern town of Creutzwald. Gaillard also mentioned that the bank notes "had to be escorted discreetly" during the process.
